To protect and promote health and prevent diseases and injuries through population based services. Statutorily, the Health Department is responsible for the following Core Public Health Functions:
1. Assessment: Regular and systematic collection, assembly, and analysis of data and information showing the health of the community.
2. Policy Development: The responsibility of public health partners to serve the public's interest by fostering shared ownership with the community in developing comprehensive public health plans, services, and guidelines.
3. Assurance: Taking necessary and reasonable action to show citizens that services needed to achieve agreed upon public health goals are provided by encouraging the action of the partners. It also includes required action through enforcement and/or direct provision of services.
The Health Department works collaboratively with the State Division of Health and Family Services.
