Dementia Care Specialist

What is a Dementia Care Specialist?
Many people living with dementia live at home. Dementia can cause challenges for not only people living with the condition but also their caregivers. The Dementia Care Specialist (DCS) works to improve the quality of life for individuals living in the community with dementia as well as provides support to families and caregivers. 

What do dementia care specialists do?
Dementia care specialists provide free information and support to individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Consultations can be provided at the ADRC Office, over the phone or in home.  Dementia Care Specialists can also help:

  • Complete memory screens for those individuals who question whether they are having memory issues and offer options of follow-up to consider.
  • Provide ongoing support to Individuals and their families helping to plan for the future by providing information on what to expect, decisions to consider in advance and resources available for support.
  • Train local businesses interested in learning how to best serve customers and employees who are experiencing memory loss in themselves or loved ones.
  • Provide education to local service and civic groups about the impact of dementia and how they can support and assist their family, friends, and neighbors.

Juneau County Men's Shed
The Juneau County Men's Shed Program is a unique collaboration between the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Eagle Country Juneau County Office, Juneau County Land and Water Department and the Outdoors Forever Conservation Club. The Men's Shed Program provides a safe space for men age 60 and better to gather together and share in conversation, connection and education all which helps to promote healthy aging and brain health. The Men's Shed Program is held on the 4th Tuesday every month at Outdoors Forever Clubhouse.
