What is a Communicable Disease?

Tuberculin Skin Testing
Tuberculin Skin Testing (TST) is done at Juneau County Health Department. The Mantoux tuberculin skin test is the standard method of determining whether a person is infected with Mycobacerium tuberculosis. Reliable TST administration and reading requires that the skin test reaction should be read between 48 and 72 hours after administration.  Tuberculin Skin Testing is done by appointment and is not administered on Thursdays. Tuberculin Skin Testing is $20 per test or $35 for a two step test. Call the Health Department at (608) 847-9373 to schedule an appointment.

Communicable Disease ProgramJCHD provides follow-up services on reportable diseases to ensure the safety of its residents and decrease the transmission of disease. A Public Health Nurse provides education on ways to reduce exposure to the disease and when possible determine the source and where it may have spread. Examples of communicable diseases that require reporting are: Lyme disease, Salmonella, Whooping Cough, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Hepatitis.
